the dwelling

Dhammapada 150
Around the bones is built a house, plastered over with flesh and blood — in which dwell pride and pretence, old age and death.

There is an existence that we see, hear, feel; generally we verify existence with our 5 senses. The sensations are the evidence of existence. After this assertion, we as beings – and I use that term for all beings and maybe plants and other living, and marginally living entities – part our ways. Reacting to stimuli is what we all do. Some reactions are simple, such as a plant turning toward the sun light. Other reactions are more complex such as grieving at the loss of a loved one. Stimulus and then response. It is a common trait throughout this world. On other worlds? we can only speculate.

And what of the senses? “You are seeing things through a cat’s eye – baby …”. If you were seeing things through a fly’s eye… totally different perspective. If you were smelling with a dog’s nose, or hearing through a bat’s ear, you’re existing in the same time, same space, but with an other’s sense of reality. There but for the grace of the gods, go I.

It’s Been a While

As you might have noticed, it has been a while since I have posted on this site.  I am in the process (over the past year or so ) of rethinking and redesigning the site.  Hopefully I will be getting it up and running by the end of the summer.

The Long Shadows of Morning

Captured from my back porch are the long shadows of early morning.
