new insights
I’m reading Steven Pinker’s Blank Slate, which is increasing my awareness.
First of all I have come to understand that what we call mind is really our brain. You might think they are one in the same but, the brain is made up of various components, where as, I believe, our concept of mind is more akin to our concept of soul. We think of our mind as a single entity, which is not really the case.
The other rather interesting insight that I have acquired is that our brain does not perceive reality. Due to the way the brain has evolved over eons, it is engendered with the ability to interpret the reality perceived by our senses and present it as information relevant to the functioning of the organism, which is us. In short, life is what you make it.
